Below are a few resources to help you on your freegan adventures. Some I’ve used extensively and others here and there. Hopefully they can help you on your journey!
ABOUT FREEGANISM
Freegan.info – A great website that explains what freeganism is, some interesting stats, dumpster diving locations, and more.
Tools
OLIO – OLIO connects neighbors and local shops so surplus food & other household items can be shared. More popular in some cities than others. My highlight is a 3 lb bag of beans.
craigslist – craigslist provides local classifieds and forums for jobs, housing, for sale, personals, services, local community, and events. This is probably my favorite way to sell random things. I’ve also found a lot of free food here too. I love the haphazard/happy-go-lucky nature of the beast. No frills. Lots of waste reduction.
OfferUp – OfferUp is revolutionizing how we sell by making it a snap! Instantly connect with buyers and sellers near you.
Ebay – Buy and sell electronics, cars, fashion apparel, collectibles, sporting goods, digital cameras, baby items, coupons, and everything else on eBay, the world’s online marketplace. If you use this in the spirit of freeganism, look for used things.
Books & Movies
Note: Please see if your library has these before buying.
Ishmael, Story of B, My Ishmael, Beyond Civilization – Books by Daniel Quinn. Foundational to understanding how humans interact with the world and nature.
The One-Straw Revolution by Mansanobu Fukuoka. A guide on Natural Farming and on how to live in line with nature.
Dive! The Film – A documentary inspired by a curiosity about our country’s careless habit of sending food straight to landfills, DIVE! follows filmmaker Jeremy Seifert and friends as they dumpster dive in the back alleys and gated garbage receptacles of Los Angeles’ supermarkets.
Freegans: Diving Into The Wealth Of Food Waste In America – If capitalism is such an efficient system, why does 40 percent of all U.S. food production go to waste—while one in six people in the nation face hunger? This startling truth has stirred increasing interest and action of late, but none so radical as that of the freegans, who live on what capitalism throws away—including food culled from supermarket dumpsters. Freegans is a close look at the people in this movement, offering a broader perspective on ethical consumption and the changing nature of capitalism.

MrMoneyMustache.com – A source of inspiration for me. Similar world views with more of an emphasis on passive income.
